I have but one word to explain my opinion of this movie...

BORING

I happened to see Zombie Land on the same day... So I had a thought. What about Alice in Zombie land... see.. Alice falls down a hole, gets eaten by ravenous zombie's... end of story... Any takers.

My 12 year old nephew thinks Alice is creepy looking and I agree. We won't be going to see that movie. I don't watch Zombie movies so I don't know how I feel about Alice and Zombies. I had an awesome Alice book that I have to look for. It's a paperback and it's tons of Alice short stories written by all different authors. There were some totally interesting Alice stories in there and a lot of them were nothing like the original story.

Blech, I saw Alice on Sunday.
The story was pretty good, but the casting and presentation of everything was horrid. I read the first book (never the second) and the movie just seemed like it was a joke compared to the amazingness of the book. The colors of the movie were very interesting and captivating, but the animation was kind of cheap, and I saw it in 3D, and that put a whole other horrid twist on the movie. Movies shouldn't be put in to 3D unless you make the specifically for that, don't offer an alternative :P I've never seen a good 3D movie that had a normal alternative. Just choose one or the other.

This movie was so not worth breaking a TV fast over.

They did mis-name the movie. It was definitely based mostly on the second book in the Alice in Wonderland series - Through the Looking Glass. But that was totally missed too. But I never expect movies to live up to the books they are based upon.

That said - I actually enjoyed the cinematography of the movie when my husband and I took our girls last weekend. The acting? Well that left a lot to be desired.

As for Zombie Land. Just not a movie that I was interested in AT ALL!

Blessings,

Garsy

I thought the overall story was rather typical.

I'll give Depp some kudos as the Mad Hatter, he did fairly well. But it was funny when he pretty much tried to be something like William Wallace in "Braveheart". He did do well in giving the Jabberwocky poem an air of menace, when he recited it.

Did not particularly care for the White Queen. Only Morticia Addams from the old TV series could move like that, and make it work well. For WQ, it just looked contrived.

The character of Alice was interesting. She is intentionally flat and largely uninteresting at first, only to finally grow a spine and stop being pushed about in the end.

I'll also give the movie a prop for being un-PC, by letting the caterpillar being a smoker.

Tweedle Dee and Dum were better than I feared they would be.

I wonder if it takes a certain set of predilections to appreciate this kind of bizarre movie. After all, it takes a certain mindset to appreciate the Alice In Wonderland books.

I would like to see. I think I would probably like it.

I thought his performance was spotty. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was Jack Sparrow. Maybe it's because I haven't read the books, but I also didn't get why he only had a Scottish accent some of the time.

No comments on the Red Queen? She was my favorite character in the movie, by far. Helena Bonham Carter was perfect IMO.

Not to hijack your thread because I'm looking forward to seeing Alice, but I just had to say give Zombieland a shot. It's not what you'd expect and really good. I was not looking forward to it but my husband started watching it and it sucked me in...

I was disappointed in the fact that it wasn't "Tim Burton-y" enough. That story was a perfect match for his twisted vision, and he blew it. Definately one of his "misses".

The last third was nothing more than a rehashed ripoff of Narnia or LOTR. Seems he went for the big budget fantasy/action film.

Anne Hathaway was HORRIBLE!

Totally boring movie for which I never felt an ounce of suspence or excitement, neither was I intrigued to find out what would happen next. The movie was choppy and seemed to be odd scenes sort of pasted together like a kidnappers note.

Johnny Depp was always Jack Sparrow dodging between a scottish, british and south jersey accent. Ack! His character was also sort of depressing.

Alice was bland. I wish I could comment more but she evoked nothing from the viewer

Tweedle dum and dee, cheshire cat, rabbit were all obvious plot tools without personality or character development. They like so many othrs only appeared for comic relief or to push the story forward and then disappeared back into the forgettful oblivious from which they came.

Red Queen was the only reason to go see the movie. Carter was a riot.

White Queen was annoying and painful to watch. Ack!

What was good about this movie? Awesome colors, amazing costumes, great cinematography (although spotty at times).

I thought the White Queen and the Cheshire Cat were the only ones who were rather like the tone of the books, whimsical, odd, amused-by-themselves even. Anne Hathaway was hilarious, as was Stephen Fry. Alan Rickman was pretty good.

Alice was....a new girl and I give her props, I feel she could do better and I would be excited to see it later on in her career.

There are movies with Tim Burton's heart in it, and there are ones where it is not there. This is one where it is not there.

I really enjoyed the movie, far from boring. White Queen and especially the Cheshire Cat are excellent. Alice is a pretty girl, and this is true Burton’s movie.

I was concerned about my 6yr old twin grandkids seeing the movie, but yesterday was their birthday and they wanted to see it. The both of them (boy & girl) liked it and wasn't freaked or scared at all (that was my concern). Not having read the book, I thought the movie was good, especially in 3-D. The queen of hearts was my favorite character... "off with their heads".

I actually really liked the movie! I'd never watched a 3-D movie before and I had quite the headache after wearing those glasses but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I agree, there were more aspects of Through The Looking Glass in it. Helena Bonham-Carter made me laugh so much!

I thought that was the idea? There was that scene where she was talking to her ladies and acting like that, and then when the dog appeared she relaxed and moved normally.

I actually got the impression that the queens deserved more time spent on their relationship. The white queen, for all her supposed goodness, was constantly having to pretend to act a certain way in order to maintain her image/ the "love" of the people. The red queen, on the other hand, had the people around her acting and was liberated in her own actions. Neither of them had an honest relationship with their people, but it worked in two different ways.

I am a huge fan of that poem, having memorized it years ago, and he seemed to skip quite a bit of it. It was almost like he cut out every other line.

And no one so far has mentioned Crispin Glover, who I thought did a great job!

I don't like him much, period. It was basically George McFly's head on CGI armor.

I finally saw it today, and I loved it! I thought it was the best Alice in Wonderland I've ever seen. I've always thought it was a boring story with no plot, and I loved that they gave it a plot. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I just bought this movie a couple weeks ago and have seen it 3 times already. I love it! My fave characters are The cheshire cat and the red Queen! Off with her head!

I honestly didn't like it. It needed to be much less muchier.

All of the CGI is mostly what killed it for me. And there was no balance to the story. It went from being strange to almost creepy to very mushy. But the CGI made me feel like I needed a controller in my hand, it looked like a video game. But most movies with almost all CGI sets look that way.

I don't understand why they couldn't have built more sets instead of relying on computers.
