Our school is a charter school which is funded at a lower rate than traditional schools. Budget cuts are making that even worse. Anyway, our school does two major fundraisers each year, the first one raise nearly the same amount as last year ($65,000) and we did not SELL anything, it was just a cash donation thing.
Anyway, the moms who are handling the next fundraiser have convinced the princpal that all other fundraising should be cancelled because they will not be able to have a successful fundraiser if not. While some parents participate in the 2nd fundraiser it is more targeted to community members with $ to spare. Tickets are $50 each and item sell for thousands. They have to hire an armed guard.
Well, our band is now in danger of not going to any competitions this year due to lack of funds. Last year they earned Superior in every event. County events are not too costly but regional and state ones are and we have been invited to compete in a multistate competiton being held at Disney. Without fundraising most parents cannot pay for this which means all of the band cannot go.
I am so irritated.
