It looks a bit better, IMHO.

It's not about glitz and glamour, it's about making money. You put it there hoping that visitors will click enough that you can make some sort of income.

Does anybody actually click those links? My boss wants me to put it on our site and I can't really see them generating any sort of income, while at the same time they just make the site look worse. -Dan.

I don't use them, but the click on ratio is only about 15% (That's not how many buy). Personally I think this post should be in computers, rather then finance, but that's me. The key to web site success is not the glizt and glamor, but paying visits. This is first going to be achieved by writing your site to be relevant to your subject mater. This helps keep your site to the subject at hand and interesting to visit. Then secondly by making your site SEO, so the search engines find you. This is adding proper keywords and tags to keep your site relevant to the subject matter. When you place a lot of ads on your site - it's like opening your front door and saying - Thank you for coming to my site, but please visit this other site instead. In addition these ads are seldom relevant to your own content. Example: If you have a web site selling boats, and you place ads pointing to a site selling trains - the search engines pick up trains and boats from your web site.. Thus you will be placed half way down (or 50%) in the stack of relevancy to a search for trains, or half way down in a search for boats.. If your site is 50% relevant out of a search of 100,000, you'll be about 50,000 in the stack. How many times do you go to a site that's #50,000 in the stack? What makes you think your customers will go there? Using ad words - You're placing an ad and biding on terms or words customers type in. Thus telling the search engines that if someone types in the word "Boats" place this ad on the side of the search results telling them that my website is about boats. About 15% of these people will click on your link, and you will pay google your bid price, every time a person does that, whether or not they buy from you. Which if your content is some what interesting enough to lead them to your product page, you will sell 2% of those that visit your site. Flip this entire equation - keep your site relevant to subject mater, and SEO set. Your site will be ranked with in the top ten of subject matter, you won't be paying for advertising, you'll still sell about 2% of the visitors, but if done right you'll be receiving 85% of the visits, instead of the 15% from a paid ad. That's all I do with my web site and I receive over 8000 visits per month. A customer is always just a click away from your site.

a blog receiving only a hundred people a day, really isn't going to be making money, it's probably not worth it especially for a general topics type of blog. especially if you're creating your own adsense account with a minimum payment that'll take years for you to hit that. not sure if you fall under blogspot's account though.

It is really going to depend on the type of site. It also depends on the location. I have a site that generates a few hundred dollars a month with Google Adsense. It seems like it used to convert better, but it still helps to pay the bills.
