Hey everybody... I'm writting an argumentive essay for my english class. I'm having a hard time picking a topic. Any ideas? There has to be two sides to the issue... like "unemployment" won't really work.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Also respond as quickly as you can because I'm supposed to have notes by this wednesday. (I don't even have a topic) yikes. I have so much going on this week its crazy, a test, this essay, need to meet with my advisor, friday i have to break brownies for the bible study then bible study... well you get the point.

We're doing the same thing in my English class. What I did was to pick an issue that I was currently dealing with in my own life, and I wrote my paper on parsonage living vs. housing allowances. Just look close to home. What kinds of disagreements are you currently having with people in your own life?

Actually, you could make "unemployment" work if that's what you're passionate about. It's just too broad a topic at the moment. What is it about "unemployment" that really gets your heart racing?
Is it the fact that people game the system? Do you agree or disagree with the increased limits? Is it too hard to receive the benefits? I don't know. Just tossing some things out there.
If that topic doesn't float your boat, nose around these forums in the Homosexuality, Racial Issues and Abortion threads. You'll find some really good arguments in all of those where you'll be exposed to both sides of the issue.

Actually WriterChick is right,
unemployment can work. You can verse the stats of they say the economy is getting better because unemployment rates have lowered verses is the unemployment rate really lower or have people's extensions and benefits ran out and no longer eligible to receive compensation.
Anything politic: Stimulis is it beneficial to the public or to Corporate Business.
Universal Healthcare vs Private Healthcare, etc...
Also Consecrated also gave great advice~
It is a known fact that if you are knowledgable in an area that is close to home, you will and can write a passionate page or or two debate on it.
It can be as simple as: Cat vs. Dog
Elder care: Nursing home vs. taking parent home
dating vs. courting
finances: pay minimum vs benefit of paying extra (which one's benefit paying extra vs. which one's to extend)
Children: Homeschool vs public school
There are tons of argumentative debates, just what is you passion?
Your answer and paper will be easy when you answer that question

I think you're just having trouble narrowing your topic down.
For instance, in the above topic you can talk about 401K retirement (modern retirement with stock options as the base) vs. company pensions (one of the previous standards) and how they are different.

I decided on "whether magazines should ban airbrushing on (fashion or celebs) models or not... or should it be limited?"

I love that topic. Original, you can pull in what happened with Demi Moore (I mean, like half of her hip was missing) and can even talk a bit about girls, teens, and women and self-esteem. Great topic!

How about Finance Essays topic? Finance is like a subject matter that rapidly changes. You can argue on variable strategies and analysing theoretical equations.
