Soy milk tends to have just as many carbs and calories as cow's milk ~ so I don't get any benefit there. And my endocrinologist has cautioned me to avoid soy, where possible, since it has an adverse impact on my already malfunctioning thyroid.

Glad you liked the almond breeze-I was going to try some last week but wasn't brave enough. Not sure what the "benefit" of it is over milk? Didn't have my glasses with me so I couldn't read the nutrition label. I eat Fiber One cereal frequently-sounds like a yummy wake up meal.

* Less that 1/2 the calories of skim milk
* A tiny fraction of the carbs of skim milk
* Shelf-stable (unopnened) for up to a year (never run out of milk)
* Once opened, lasts 8-11 days in the fridge (less spoilage)
* no worries about hormone/antibiotics contained in some milks

Awesome! Sounds wonderful-Thanks for the info. Does it have Calcium?

DH and I are going to meet at Applebees for a date...we shall be having the <550 asiago peppercorn steak....in which he shall skip the steam veggies and I shall skip the roasted potatoes...

unless the steamed veggies are broccoli only. then I shall have a nice juicy steak. lol.

Yes, indeedy ... 20% RDA per serving. It's also an excellent source of Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Magnesium, Phosphorous, and Vitamin A.

The steamed veggies are usually a mix with zuchhini, squash, carrots, and broccoi

When I ordered it, it was mushy broccoli and four tiny pieces of potato ... total for the meal: 390 calories. I actually had to have toast and cereal when I got home, since the carbs/calories were ridiculously low.... and for $12.99.

I biked 22 miles today.

That's a new personal best.

And I ate "clean" ~ dinner was tilapia, green beans, an Amy's organic vegetarian Shepherd's Pie, cheese toast and puffed Kamut cereal with unsweetened Almond Breeze for dessert. Lunch was lean ham and hummus on a high-fiber wrap, plus a romaine, pepper, tomato and snow pea pod salad with balsamic vinaigrette. My snack was a small apple. Breakfast was Fiber One, two slices of sprouted flax seed toast, and a half cup of low fat cottage cheese. My bedtime snack will be Trader Joe's Veggie Sticks, a dill pickle or two, and four slices of 98% fat free turkey bologna. A typical day for me, these days.

67g of fiber.

9 servings of veggies / 1 serving of fruit.

20% fat / 35% protein / 45% carbs.

1850 healthy, vitamin-laden, good-for-me calories.

A neighbor dropped off a frosted cupcake and a birthday card for me today. I thanked her, went inside, tucked the cupcake in a freezer-safe baggie, and froze it for my wonderful DH when he comes home in a few weeks. I appreciated the gift and the gesture, but I'm committed to healthy eating. Even on my birthday.

Tomorrow morning, I'll start all over again.

Bad luck Molly. The last time I order that steak it was great, over half the plate was veggies and potatoes. Not only were the veggies a mix, they were not overcooked. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks. I'll have to pick up a container next time I see it. (Though I couldn't find it this week during my grocery run..)

Yep, that's what I had. And I asked them for double veggies and no potatoes.

The last time I ordered "seasonal veggies" from there (a year ago), it was broccoli only.

It was really good and satisfying. I enjoyed eating steak - a rare treat.

Well after two days of not being able to eat enough food (I was so hungry) it seems that my body is back to normal.

I did well last night and doing good so far this morning. I do need to up my water today because the weather is warm, and I run tonight.

Happy Birthday Molly! The 18th is my sister's b-day too.

Also tried the peppercorn steak and did not like it. I thought it was not much for the cost, and the sauce on the potatoes was not that tastey.

I went to Chilis tonight and instead of having a dedicated "guiltless grill" section they just have symbols by some stuff to tell you how to order it for less than 750 calories. So I got one of the salads and I am not sure that she brought me the low cal dressing. I usually don't use dressing anyway since most of it is really not good for you, but I had a little of whatever she brought me and it was quite good. I am sure the chips and salsa I ate though were not so good. I skipped dessert, and now I would really like a chocolate shake.

Actually, chips and salsa aren't all that bad, really. I try to really focus on the salsa and moderate the number of chips that I eat ~ but they really can be OK.

I buy Tostitos all Natural salsa and it is only 15 calories a tablespoon. And it is yummy! We went to Houlihans. They are test marketing their small plates in our area. They were so good. Probably not that diet friendly but all very fresh and yummy. Hey that is why I am careful with what I eat most of the time so sometimes I can just enjoy!

I used a ziploc, steamer bag to steam carrots and broccoli for dinner the other night. They came out perfectly crunchy and cooked. I forgot about the bags and discovered them in the back of one of my cabinets , so I will be using this method more often for cooking veggies.

I checked my daily caloric deficit for the last week and its at 779 calories, so I was pleased with this. I should be loosing about 1.5 pounds per week now. I might step it up a bit this coming week.

Have a nice weekend ladies!

Well, I was supposed to start Weight Watchers this past week but got side tracked. I will be going this coming week. I don't look good at all - not healthy - just very overweight, more than I've ever weighed in my life. If I keep going it won't be pretty.

I shopped the other day - a real shopping with healthy foods. I'm going to be doing that from now on. I feel less hungry than I've felt in a long time. Also, I've been learning to identify cravings from hunger, thanks to FunBetty's link. That has helped me a lot this week.

Congrats to all of the ladies who are posting to this thread and making progress. It is helping to motivate me. Right now, I feel like I can't make it, like I can't do it. The amount of weight that I have to lose just seems to be so much.

Rgod, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. So how do you lose weight? One smaller bite at a time.

You can do it. I'm still a long ways to go on my journey, and it's been hard, and progress is slower than I'd like, but I'm making process.

This morning the pastor has noticed ours (me and DH's) weight loss. It feels good to be noticed when he didn't know we've been changing our habits.

I biked 16 miles on Saturday.
I biked 17 miles on Sunday.
And I ate "clean" all weekend.
(And I think my "time of the month" is due any day now .... sigh)
Weigh-in tomorrow (Monday).

I was very depressed last week, and although I have no real idea why, it seems to have vanished as quickly and mysteriously as it showed up. Weird.

Anyway, I gained 2 pounds last week, although I didn't really eat comfort foods or anything unhealthy, I did seem much hungrier than usual, so now that things are back to "normal" I'm back on track. I literally did housework yesterday from the time I got up until around 9pm last night, without sitting down for more than 15 minutes to eat. My legs are seriously sore from lugging things up and down the stairs, and from bending down to pick things up. I was exhausted and I slept better than I have in weeks. Maybe I just needed a good housecleaning day!

We ate at Jumping Johnny's this weekend. I didn't have a way to get a calorie count of their food, so I just had a child's turkey/cheese sandwich on whole wheat, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard and it came with chips (I chose baked Lay's and shared them with Aaron) and mandarin oranges (again, halved with Aaron). It didn't seem like it should be that bad, but you never know. I think another key is making the best choice available when you don't really know the nutritional information.

I love salsa and chips but I can't ever seem to stop once I get started, so I don't eat them at all at this point. Someday!

Monday Morning Weigh-In ~

I LOST 3.6 POUNDS THIS WEEK!

(Thanks to about an 800-calorie daily deficit and hard biking at least two hours every day -- some days more.)

I have a sunburn and two sore knees, so today may end up being a "day off from biking" to give my body a much-needed rest.

Jenn ~ could you be ovulating or could it be your time of the month? Hormone surges can definitely impact our mood as well as our appetite, and water retention around both is absolutely normal. My guess is that those 2 pounds will be gone in a few days (that's how water retention works!) Besides, unless you consumed an extra 7000 calories in the past week, it's not "weight" ~ it's water!

I lost 1.8 this week! Yeah! So I am 132.2 lbs. I have 7.2 more to lose to hit my goal, although I feel good where I am, I am just going to keep doing my exercise and good eating, because i don't want to gain it. :) And I know I will feel even better if I get into the 120's again. :) I have a sorta personal goal, which is to fit into my wedding dress by my anniversary. That would mean I would need to be around 127, as that is what I was when we got married. So that would be about 5 lbs in 5 weeks. Not a big deal, but it would be fun! :)

Everyone seems to be noticing my weight loss, at least commenting on it now. I had to lose almost 15 lbs before anyone really said anything. That is not fair. :(

Congrats on the weight loss everyone and keep up the good work!
